  The IEC's first round of invitations began on January 8 International Experience Canada (IEC) 2024 opened on December 11, 2023, allowing youth from eligible countries to submit profiles. The first round of invitations started on January 8, 2024, with the number of issued invitations expected to be announced on January 12, 2024. The IEC 2024 fees are CAD 172, with additional fees for some programs.  Iceland and Finland are joining the IEC in 2024, and South Korean youth can participate in more programs this year. IEC work permit holders require health insurance during their stay. To participate, candidates must submit a profile and receive an invitation before applying for a work permit.   Canada fast-tracking International Experience Canada Work Permits with a new AI tool On November 7, 2023, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) enhanced the processing of International Experience Canada work permits through expanded automation. A new tool will triage applications based on complexity and approve eligibility for routine applications, increasing efficiency and supporting the growth of the IEC. This tool, part of IRCC’s commitment to technology, undertakes most clerical tasks and directs applications to officers based on their expertise. The new tool will identify routine applications for streamlined processing, with final decisions made by an officer. The use of automated tools is part of IRCC's commitment to responsibly using technology to build a stronger immigration system for all of our clients.   Saskatchewan expands the SINP to include 279 new jobs On November 1, 2023, the Government of Saskatchewan announced broadening the Saskatchewan Immigrant Nominee Program (SINP) to bolster worker retention. The expansion now allows certain work permit holders in intermediate and lower-skilled occupations to apply for permanent residency under the Existing Work Permit stream.  This change opens up PR opportunities for internationally trained workers in these sectors who meet the program's criteria, including language requirements and a full-time job offer.  Previously, only high-skilled and designated trade workers were eligible for this program. Canada closed the International Experience Canada program (IEC) for season 2023 On October 27, 2023, the Government of Canada announced that Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) closed the 2023 season of the International Experience Canada (IEC) program.  Those who received an invitation to apply (ITA) will be able to complete and submit their work permit applications. Profiles of those who have not received an ITA for the 2023 IEC season will be removed from the IEC pool. Those applicants can create a new profile when the pools reopen for the 2024 season. If you have not yet received an ITA for the 2023 season, Your profile will be removed from consideration. When the pools reopen for the 2024 season, you can create a new profile.   Canada invited 2,514 candidates under the new IEC Draw Over the last two weeks, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) held new IEC draws. From September 16 to September 29, Canada invited 2,514 young foreigners to apply for an IEC open work permit. As of September 29, 30,757 candidates registered in the pool, awaiting the invitation. In 2023, Canada issued 121,616 ITAs under the IEC Program. Overview of candidates invited to the new IEC Draw In the New IEC draw 2,514 ITAs were sent out to young foreigners.
