North Bay business leaders want the Rural and Northern Immigration Pilot to be permanent

The Rural and Northern Immigration Pilot (RNIP) has been successful and popular, leading the North Bay & District Chamber of Commerce (NBDCC) to call for it to become a permanent immigration program. 


The RNIP has been implemented in five Northern Ontario communities, and only in North Bay, over 150 employers participated, and over 300 community recommendations for newcomers were issued. Timmins and Sudbury have also expressed their support for RNIP. 


In Thunder Bay, RNIP generated $11.6 million in wages for the local economy and created 321 jobs in just one year.


Thunder Bay issued 274 recommendations to qualified candidates in the RNIP 


What is Rural and Northern Immigration Pilot (RNIP)?


The Rural and Northern Immigration Pilot is an initiative driven by the local communities. By offering a path to permanent residency for highly talented foreign workers who wish to live and work in one of the participating communities, it aims to expand the benefits of economic immigration to smaller communities.

The British Columbia PNP invited up to 198 tech professionals and skilled candidates

The British Columbia PNP invited up to 198 tech professionals and skilled candidates On January 16, 2024, the Government of British Columbia held new invitation draws under the British Columbia Provincial Nominee Program (BCPNP) and issued invitations to apply to qualified candidates in tech, healthcare, childcare, construction, and veterinary care occupations.  In the tech draw, the province invited 91 candidates. OINP held two draws under the Employer Job Offer: Foreign Worker Stream On January 9, 2024, the Government of Ontario held two draws in the Employer Job Offer: Foreign Worker Stream ( EJO FW ) Stream of the Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program (OINP).  The province issued 821 targeted invitations to apply (ITAs) to tech and healthcare occupations and 630 ITAs for skilled trades workers. The minimum scores for these draws were 40 and 33, respectively.  All invitees have profiles created between January 9, 2023, and January 9, 2024. So far, the province invited 1,451 candidates under the OINP in 2024.
