Canada is a top destination for immigrant entrepreneurs

According to the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development, Canada is the top destination for immigrant entrepreneurs among all OECD countries. There are over 24 OECD countries, including the United States, France, the United Kingdom, Australia, and Sweden. According to OECD research, these countries are becoming more interested in attracting international entrepreneurs. This is intended to promote innovation, foreign investment, the creation of jobs, and economic growth.

Furthermore, in order to create a favorable environment for new and innovative enterprises to grow, a combination of measures should be implemented to develop entrepreneurial ecosystems, drive research and innovation, and guarantee that prospective founders have access to funds and appropriate human capital.

The OECD's Indicators of Talent Attractiveness evaluating approach focuses on attracting foreign entrepreneurs by taking into account both general criteria and specific immigration laws aimed at potential international start-up founders. The system comprises seven important components: market size and reach, capital access, degree of digitization, and connectivity.

In comparison to the other 24 OECD countries, Canada was recognized as the most attractive country for immigrant start-up founders and entrepreneurs.

According to the ranking system, OECD concluded that Canada evaluated among the top 25% across every aspect of the framework, except for the 'skills environment'. IRCC sets new wage rules for employers recruiting temporary foreign workers

IRCC sets new wage rules for employers recruiting temporary foreign workers From January 1, 2024, employers recruiting through the Temporary Foreign Worker Program (TFWP) must adjust foreign workers' wages to match updated prevailing rates, as per Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC). Although some employers are exempt, this usually requires a Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA). The Job Bank updates provincial wage differences annually.  Canada is inviting foreign workers to boost its economy amid labor shortages, with potential losses of $38 billion due to shortages, as the Canadian Federation of Independent Business (CFIB) reported. Foreign workers in Canada are legally entitled to the same rights as Canadians, with employers required to ensure a fair work environment and access to healthcare. Even if the prevailing wage falls, the updated wage can never fall below the wage identified in the positive LMIA at any time during a TFW's employment period. Emplo...

Immigrant earnings have increased greater than Canadian earnings

Immigrant earnings have increased greater than Canadian earnings In a groundbreaking analysis conducted for the Office of the Parliamentary Budget Officer of Canada, it has been revealed that immigrants are experiencing a remarkable surge in earnings, outstripping the income growth of native Canadians. The report highlights a significant shift in economic dynamics, where immigrants are swiftly closing the income gap and even surpassing the earnings of their Canadian counterparts. Between the years 2014 and 2018, immigrants witnessed a remarkable surge in their relative income, soaring from 55% to an impressive 78% when compared to all Canadian tax filers. This exponential growth trend was particularly pronounced among immigrants originating from Asian countries, as well as those possessing higher educational qualifications in professional occupations. A key driving force behind this meteoric rise in immigrant incomes is attributed to pre-existing family networks and prior work experien...

IRCC will continue to hold virtual citizenship ceremonies

IRCC will continue to hold virtual citizenship ceremonies According to the Government of Canada’s response to the petition on citizenship ceremonies, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) is considering an online tool for self- administered Oath of Citizenship . The analysis is underway, considering client experience, process integrity, and preserving the importance of citizenship ceremonies.  Video ceremonies introduced in 2020 due to COVID-19 have helped reduce processing times and increased monthly oath-taking. These allow participation from rural areas and accommodate larger groups. Between January and September 2023, 276,540 new citizens were made, exceeding pre-COVID levels. Ceremonies are scheduled considering operational demands, official availability, and venue suitability. IRCC is working towards a 12-month service standard for granting citizenship. If you are applying for citizenship, you must be a permanent resident (PR) in Canada, regardless of your age. ...
